What is `Tai Chi'?

What is `Tai Chi'?

This book grew out of a question one of the author's students asked. The answer proved to be longer than either teacher or student could have anticipated. As he looks at the complex art of 'Tai Chi', the author answers questions such as why, unlike in other martial arts, 'Tai Chi' has no gradings; how hard you should try; and how to make the most of your teacher. A wide range of material is covered, including fundamental points about the mechanics of movement and the 'energetic' aspects of practice, as well as the relationship between body, mind and spirit that emerges. The author also provides answers to questions that even experienced practitioners may not have thought to ask, such as what are the levels of self-defense in 'Tai Chi'? How do I refine and develop my 'Tai Chi'? What is the difference between method and technique? How do I put principles into practice?. This insightful book covers all aspects of 'Tai Chi', answering questions that are beyond the scope of many classes. It will be of interest to anyone beginning 'Tai Chi' or Qi Gong, as well as to more experienced practitioners at all levels, practitioners of other martial arts, and friends and relatives of Tai Chi" players who wonder what all the fuss and enthusiasm is about. The Philosophy of Tai Chi Chuan

The Philosophy of Tai Chi Chuan

$14.95

The essence of Tai Chi Chuan lies in the rich philosophy of ancient China. While most Tai Chi practitioners are aware of the value that studying Chinese philosophy can bring to their practice, it is often difficult to pick out those texts that are most relevant to Tai Chi and connected to its development. The Philosophy of Tai Chi Chuan presents, for the first time, a concise overview of the Chinese martial and spiritual philosophies that drive this ancient tradition.Authors Freya and Martin Boedicker, who teach Tai Chi throughout Europe and South Africa, present freshly translated excerpts from such popular and widely studied works as the Tao Te Ching, the I Ching, and The Art of War, as well as writings by philosophers and strategists such as Zhuangzi and Wuzi. Each chapter of this concise volume focuses on a single work or philosopher, and includes a short history of each one as well as a description of their relevance to Tai Chi. An extensive glossary of important Chinese terms rounds out the book. The Philosophy of Tai Chi Chuan offers readers a direct connection with the concepts that form the foundation of Tai Chi, inspiring a deeper understanding of the art and its applications. From the Hardcover edition.

Tai Chi Beginning Practice
What Tai Chi form is this?

This is probably going to be an easy question to answer. I had to miss my tai chi class, and I want to practice my movements, and this is probably going to sound very newbie-ish of me, but I forgot the name of the form. I've been trying to find a video so I can practice along, but the only video I could find of it is this (it's kind of an annoying vid and only shows a minute of the beginning of the form, but that looks like what we've been practicing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3GLEcwSvD4 Thanks for your help in advance!

Salutations,
Looks like Yang long form, but none of them seem to be taking it seriously. I would beg you not to use the Jonas Brother's as teachers. if you are interested in some good tai chi, with some great music, I would suggest looking for Master Ren's program, with narration and Music by Lou Reed. and yes, these guys take it very seriously. Cheers.
